Website analytics
I use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use this site, which content they read, and which links they follow. Analytics starts automatically when you visit with JavaScript enabled, unless a previous refusal is stored in this browser.
Google Analytics uses first-party cookies, including cookies named _ga and _ga_*, to distinguish browsers and measure sessions. It collects information such as pages viewed, referral and campaign information, browser and device details, approximate location, and interactions with the site. The site also measures email-link clicks, outbound and social-profile clicks, and article engagement. An email-link click does not reveal the contents of your email.
Google Signals may associate visits with information from signed-in Google users who have enabled the relevant Google account settings, providing aggregate audience insights. Previous analytics-only choices and Global Privacy Control disable advertising-related collection and Google Signals while allowing standard analytics.

Your preferences
This site preserves earlier tracking refusals and analytics-only choices stored in your browser. It does not treat a default setting as affirmative consent. Global Privacy Control disables advertising-related processing without disabling standard analytics. The older Do Not Track browser signal does not change this site's tracking settings.
You can manage Google's advertising preferences in My Ad Center or use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Browser privacy settings and blockers may also limit collection. Stored choices apply to that browser and device; clearing site storage removes them.
Retention and calculator data
Google Analytics is configured to retain event-level data for two months and user-level data for 14 months, with the user retention period reset on new activity. These limits do not apply to most aggregated reports. Calculator inputs and generated reports stay in your browser and are not sent to Google Analytics by the calculator.
Information you send me
If you email me, I receive your email address and the information you include. I use that information to respond and manage the conversation.
Hosting and external links
The website's hosting infrastructure may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser information, requested pages, and timestamps to deliver the site, troubleshoot problems, and maintain security. Links to other websites are governed by those websites' privacy policies.
